What are your views on "Pit Bulls", a particular breed of what is thought as a highly aggressive breed. I"ll give my response after this forum is closed. ~N.S.

Pitt's are no more aggressive than any other breed. In fact, they are generally tested as less aggressive. The problem isn't the dog, but the person who raises it without training it, or raising it to be violent.
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.

Having many friends who own them or have, they do seem dog aggressive in certain lines of them.
Retrievers retrieve, pointers point etc, some pitbulls are the result of over a century of breeding for dog on dog aggression. I have seen dogs that were never aggressive with people tear other dogs apart much to tbeor owners dismay.

I also owned a Presa Canario, which also has a background in dog fighting. She never attacked anything but if someone she did not know got too close to any of my children she would put herself between the stranger and the child and growl. Owners make a huge difference, but some breeds are advanced in terms of care requirments and owner responsability. Powerful dogs with a potential for certain types of aggression are poor choices for aggressive people prone to yelling or fighting.

At least having known dozens of pitbulls this is what i have seen.

I know of breeds, not pitbulls, that have been bred to hunt people and have dogs of war as ancestors, these often have a tendency towards extremely aggressive instinct. Pitbulls are far less aggressive than these breeds in general.

But you can breed for behavioural traits, and they do impact a dogs personality as much as an owner can.
