I believe this may be the same kind of triops that the previous member posted about. I would really appreciate any input regarding what species it might be. If anyone can make a positive identification of it, that would great!

They don't seem to fit very well with any of the images I checked on Triopsguys Species List

Hope to hear from some of the experts!

More info please :). Where is the triops from? If its from a kit, its probably some form of T.longicaudatus, they can be speckled just like your picture. Attached are pics of a T.longicaudatus I had a few years ago.

If you found it in the wild in Western USA, then its likely T.newberryi :).

To know 100% for sure you would have to count the tail segments or get genetic analysis, I believe.

newberryi probably, long's gills stick out more behind the carapace. Could always be a genetic variation on a Long though. :P
T. longicaudatus green/ T. longicaudatus marbled/ T. longicaudatus black beauty/ T. longicaudatus gonochoric/ T. cancriformis/ T. albino cancriformis/ T. granarius/ L. cryptus/ T. mauritanicus

in case it helps, the reason i think it is newberryi is because of

1. the shifty eyes, they look like they are squinting, as opposed to longicaudatus or granarius, which have big black cartoon puppy eyes in comparison, and cancriformis eyes are set differenty, more upward than sideways, kinda surprised looking. (it's more the colouration of the eye, it's mottled on top with the newberryis the same as the carapace so the black part looks small and squinty)

2. the points on the carapace are outside the footprint of the rest of the body. i just noticed this with my babies as well. In the longicaudatus they generally curve back over the legs, and/or the legs stick out farther. the carapace is also a bit wider and rounder than the other species.

3. the colour - i have seen them both brownish rosey and light green. this one is sort of in between. i find they generally have a whitishness to their undersides in places.

4. the mottling seems to be common, however i had one that was almost transparent, with green edging. it only grew to about 1cm though, so it may not have had time to colour up. the other green one i had (that i think i have babies of now) had coloured up by that time, my new ones are not that big yet and are sti pretty monotone. the transparent one was supposed to be "light" and the other one "dark" (although it was actually light green). the other ones i have are dark brown.

the other thing i equate with newberryis is activity, they always seem to be in a hurry, in a cute sort of way.

they get along really well with the beige longicaudatus, never seen so much friendly touchy feely between Triops.

very nice pictures by the way!
