I've had my 30 gallon aquarium sitting around with 3 goldfish in it, and yesterday we put the goldfish back into my pond. I took the 30 gallon, moved my soon-to-be triops tank somewhere else in my room and moved my 30 gallon with stand and heater and filter, put the aquascapeing fertilized gravel in, filled it up with water, and letting the filter and heater run for a while. I'll wait 2 weeks until spring break then go get some plants and begin my new tank. I'll post some pics later today, but I'm not sure if I should get shrimp(cherry shrimp or yellow shrimp) or fish( neons, glass catfish, or anything interesting that won't eat the plants) any suggestions?

I'd go with the shrimp, they're more unusual and at least to me more interesting. I've also heard they're easier to keep, but I've never had them myself so don't take my work for it.
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.

shrimp are a great idea, red cherries and crystal reds are awsome just make sure the tank is cycled before addding them as they are very sensitive to nitrites and ammonium. I love my red cherry shrimp, they are easy to care for, rarly need to be fed (in an established well planted tank), and breed like crazy once established.

my dwarf puffers do not bother my adult amano and ghost shrimp...
but they love to eat the baby red cherries and baby ghosties.

ghosties will eat baby redcherries as well. actualy very few things wont eat baby red cherries and crystal reds they seem to be a tiny tasty treat. when they have there first molt and leave the protection of thier mothers tail they are around
2 to 3mm.
the ammano shrimp dont bother them usualy though because they are mostly algae grazers.

in a tank that size red cherries, crystal reds and a couple bf ammanos could be kept togher just fine.

you need to be careful wich species of dwarf shrimp you keep together as many will interbreed but the produced offspring will be sterile like donkeys.

ottos are great! good lil algae eaters and dont usualy bother the shrimp.
one of the reasons for the algae may be that it is in front of the window-
extra natural light usualy = more algae, try puting a back drop on it and then a either a layer of alunium foil to deflect the light/heat or a thick peice of card stock.
(behind the back drop)
once the plants start to become established they will also use up some of the nutrients in the water and also help to reduce the algae(hopfuly)
also limiting your light on time to 6 or 8 hours a day can help cut down on the algae as well. (timers are great!)
also leaving the algae on the back wall of the tank and removing it from the front and sides can help by using the algae on the back wall to absorb excess nitrates and phosphates from the water colum and assures that youur shrimp and ottos have some to graze on when the tank balances out.

Moved my nerites and amanos from my 5 gallon to the 29 gallon, got some new plants(they were labeled anacharis, but I'm pretty sure they're not) and three baby angelfish. I decided against getting the cherry shrimp, mainly because I have never seen any in a store and I'm a little nervous about buying online :?
Here's some pics:

Okay, my idea.
Buying online has always worked out well for me. Just be sure to use a reputable site (like Ebay or AquaBid) and choose a seller with a good track record.

Okay, my idea.
That's a ten-gallon tank, right? Do you know that red-tailed sharks get up to 6"?

The tank looks small in that last pic. Will the red tail eat the shrimps? Mabie you have the algee because its next to the window? I never get any build up but mine is not in sunlight i have some wisteria willow moss and them mirmo moss balls seem to eat algee if that helps.

TCans: The red-tail may eat the cherry shrimp, but i think they all might have died earlier. I don't think it'll eat the amanos, they're actually the same size as him(for now). I have a backdrop on the tank, and the tank was algae free for a while. recently it has just exploded, probably an algae bloom and will be gone soonish.

So I did get a red-tailed shark, it's about 2.5 inches long right now. It seems healthy so far, and has actually been nibbling on the algae. One wall has a lot less string algae on it already, though there is still a thin film.
Anyways, here's some pics, including a clearer pic of the tank:
