Today I was working on my pond to get it ready for spring(full of leaves and other crap) and I saw some snails. Ok a lot of snails. So I took about 5, put them in a little tank, and then I saw a bright red water flea/daphnia. Caught that too, and now I will try and breed it ![]() And next week we'll put our fish back in. They all died (except for 3 goldfish) over the winter.

I wish my pond had other critters like daphnia sorry about your other fish mine only has 3 fancy goldfish about 15 comets and 1 fathead minnow (and some invisible trapdoor snails) I didnt want the comets because most look boring but my dad stocked the pond before I even got to do it myself, except for the fancy ones I "rescued" All my fish survived a full frozen pond (and it was frozen for a long time) Im guessing the fish that died were not goldfish? |

Yeah, it was 8 koi that died. This was our first year with the pond, so we kinda screwed up ![]() It was FILLED with rotting leaves, and we couldn't get them out till today when we drained the entire thing. As we were draining the pond, I also saw some weird earthworm things, but they were swimming around, and some kinda dragonfly nymph. |

My first year too,i think the rotting leaves can be easily fixed with a net.in my pond the leaves turn the water black and yucky. poor koi(and presumably expensive koi) ): maybe you have bloodworms or tubifex (probably not though) i hope your goldfish are big because most nymphs are predators |

3 of the koi were like 1ft, but the rest were 5-8 inches. 2 of the goldfish are 8 inches, and 1 of them is 3. we had a net over the pond, but then we stupidly took it off, cuz we thought there wouldn't be any more leaves blowing in
