Came home from school today, and noticed theres a bunch of isopods around my yard so I scooped some up and put them in my critter keeper ![]() they are currently feasting upon a banana peel. anyone else ever keep some of these? Im not serious about keeping them as pets but I thought it would be fun for the time being ![]() http://img6.uploadhouse.com/fileuploads/83...600e1855f7d.jpg *Edited by LGP* |

I have but I released them after they had to many babys they eat ANYTHING,but they are easy to culture if you give them a couple months to settle And apparently by watching man vs wild they taste like shrimp they are good to feed to reptiles and can even live along side them and clean (assuming they don't get eaten) |

@ littleshrimp good article, thank you... I keep a colony of Isopods around at all times for the fact I use them As the cleanup crew along with spring-tails in all my moist centipedes, scorpions, tarantula and Reptile enclosures because they do an excellent job braking down Urate/feces in a moist environment... |

I raised these for a time, very fun and interesting. You can breed different colors of them and such, I had a nice orange culture till I let them all free. It can be fun, and also very educational. Here's a link to some of the color morphs people have tried to breed: Colorful Isopod Photos, and here's an article that gives some in-depth detail on care and raising: Isopod Care. If you want to try to identify some of your local species, this is a good thread: Identification. I don't know if I'm allowed to link to other forums or not, I read the rules and didn't notice anything regarding that. If the links aren't allowed, just ask and I'll edit the post. Thought it would be some good reading in case someone really wanted to take off on this. |

Okay, my idea.

You can link to anything that's not illegal or adults-only. ![]() I'm going to edit the OP so that there's just a link rather than an image. The image is taking up more space than my screen can show. Sorry, Carnifex! |
