I was thinking to myself the other day "Hey Nick, Triops dont need a full 10 gallons to themselves..." since it seems like Im only hatching around 1-5 triops.

I am considering reducing the triops tank to a 5 gallon tank which I found at a pet store- It seems to be PERFECT for triops, the tank's bottom surface is very wide (it is a suare shaped tank) and it is not very tall, probably around 3 or 4 inches tall.

SO, I was thinking of cleaning out my 10 gallon tank, getting myself some Eco-complete substrate, put that down as well as some plants (anacharis, anubias, hornwort, vals, ect).

I was surfing around on Aquabid.com and found some of the most beautiful bettas I have ever seen. Here is a pic of my Dream-Betta: a Copper Plakat Betta

So I want to put this betta in the 10 gal but I also want some ADFs in there too, probably around 4 or 5. I checked up on some betta forums, and also yahoo answers, and it seems that ADFs are the most compatible inhabitant to keep with bettas (snails being the first most compatible)

So who here has kept bettas? do you guys know anything about these copper bettas? They look pretty dang awesome.

nice betta! I have 5 right now, veiltail & delta tail, they are about 2 years old, and one unknown female, probably about 6 months. No pics available right at the moment... I used to have way more... 4 of the ones i have left are my own babies, a pair from spawn 1, and a pair from spawn 2, and the fifth is a younger female I bought recently...her male just died. i used to have over 40, if you go back far enough in my flickr you can see some of them, i mostly got them from a fish auction, some i got from a breeder i met there. (I wanna do that again, that was soooo fun! Next time I would enter the show too, that also seems like it could be fun).

that tank for the Triops sounds great!

I kept multiple bettas in my aquariums by using a barracks for the boys, and the girls (and usually a couple of guys) would swim free.

This was Sunnydew, Sunny for short, he was my very favourite, the cutest face you ever did see, but he had dropsy when I got him (that's the only bad part about getting fish at auctions, have to be careful, definitely quarantine everyone). he only lived another 3 weeks or so.

I think copper bettas are a result of hybrid breeding Betta splendens with Betta imbellis, which is naturally metallic in colour. Sunny appears to be one of these hybrids, here's another, his name was Chris (for Xmas), and I was able to breed him too, to a girl that was also green and red, but spawn 3 turned out light coppery everything.

I don't have my pics of the coppery one available right now...

Here's one more, just to prove not all males will fight, in fact the old yellow guy did not want me to take the little guy out, and every time i did, he'd somehow get him back in his barracks (the little guy was 3 barracks away! had to get past some mean ones to get there which is why he's a little beat up (it was a bad barracks, it let them slip through all the time). This was Strawban & Julep.

ok i'm done now :)

wow very nice bettas, I especially like the second one :)

My mom just looked over my shoulder and saw the bettas and was like "no you arent getting one" .... <_< which is ironic because I pay for this stuff with my own money from my own job and take care of them myself. Therefore I dont think she has a say in what I get and dont get :lolD:

wait till she sees the ADFs :rofl2:

It's not like they'll make a lot of noise or use all the toilet paper...

I really especially like the females, they're far less grumpy looking than the guys :)

females can look nice when bred selectively. But I think they look alot like big guppies... which is kinda a turnoff for me.

Hahaha about the ADF and clawed frogs, nahhh I can tell the difference between the two :P I wouldnt mind having an ACF, theyre pretty sweet.

bettas rock!
have kepet them off and on for years.
those coppers are really nice but ...damn what a price tag.
I want a half moon dragonskin red and green.....but wayyy out o me price Range
the color variations that you can get in the females are amazing now! nothing like the brown bodied with maby an incling of color in the fins that were avaible just 10 years ago. selective breeding has done wonders for betta culture.

also betas are very easy to breed. used to put them(1 male 3 females) outside for th summer in a 30gallon patio pond with a bunch of plants and would always have 30 or 40 babies haning out every fall. usualy just gave em away to friends or peeeps at the local aquarium society/club.

ooh didnt know that! But that just ensures the chance that I wont accidentally get one (but that doesnt matter since i can easily tell the difference between the two) :P

www.aquabid.com has some copper bettas for around $20 without shipping

I dont know what the shipping would be like for you, since most breeders are in thailand.

Usually, the Thai breeder sends the fish to a "pit stop" breeder usually in your country and then from there, he/she sends the fish to you. Usually the shipping price you pay is from the "pit stop" breeder to you

Lucky for me, there is a Thai breeder who has an acquaintance in California (where I am) so the shipping will only be around $5.

Im willing to spend around $25-30 on a copper plakat betta ^_^ theyre pretty dang cool

jealous...I get stuck paying winter shipping so I dont order anything live between october and april.
had about $130. worth of fish and plants(not counting shipping) arrive dead once, won't make that mistake again. the vendor was good about crediting me and shipping again at a later date. package was in transit 2 more days than it was suppose to be and the heat pack was cold as ice
:(
