I will have to stop triops for awhile i have just ordered too dwarf puffer fish. I only have one 15 gallon tank and i can't put the triops anywere else... I am going to think what to do with some of my stuff.I have 4 large golden apple snails, 3 assassin snails, 15 red ramshorn snails, 20 guppies <_< 1 cherry shrimp. The bad thing is all of these could be on the menu for the one inch terrors, im hoping they don't eat my assassin snails, it's ok if they eat some of the smaller guppies and red ramshorn snails. I will post a vid when i have them and i need to get plants first. |

LilGreenPuffer specifically hatched out triops to feed hers. =p She was ok with larger triops though. Maybe yours will be, too. |

in my experience with aqurium plants the following are the easiest to care for and are the most tolerant of varying conditions(light levles and water paramaters). anubias: any of the anubias sp. are great slow growing dark leaved and will attach themselves to rocks and driftwood(tie on w black cotton string until they anchor themselves). do not bury rizome only roots if planting in gravel or sand. java fern: great plant will also attach itself to rocks and driftwood. same as above for root care. java moss: puffy and cute ....also attaches easily to moss and driftwood. crypts: any of the crypt sp nice clump forming plant. hair grass: nice clump forming are also dwarf sp. micro sword: good foreground ground cover. crinum: crinium nantans is a great one others get too big or are not true aquatics. marimo balls: as long as they are the real cladophora aegagrophila.... cool algae ball..... Hope this is helpful. I know many people who have started with these plants with great sucess. There are many others but I can't think of many that thrive on neglect the way these do. maby some other peeps will have more suggestions for you. if not ... http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/ but they tend to get a tad high tec for most avrage tank keepers. |

Thanks for your help. When i go to shop tomorrow morning i will ask if any of these are in. I will ask him whats good for sand and easy to care for aswell, and whats good for dwarf puffs. How is yours with other fish or snails? Do you feed live only? I have loads of frozen bloodworms, mealworms, cockrals this should be a ok main diet for them? Also i never really know i had to cycle my tank when i started so never really did it. I had some crayfish for a week before i gave them to my friend because they where making the water full of amonia, i have got apple, assassin and red ramshorns snails, guppies and a shrimp in the tank, so is the tank cycled now?

As long as no one's died in a while, the tank is probably cycled

Nothing has ever died in the tank, exept a few triops. Edit: and the red ramshorn of natural assassin reasons.

I try to give mine a balanced diet but they prefer to try to hunt the snails to extinction have Mts,ramshorn and 3 types of nerites in the tank. The only ones they dont bother is the larger nerites because there shells are too thick for them to smash up. unless one of them ends upsidown for more than a few seconds then it to ends up puffer chow. They also like the frozen blood worms +krill, will ocasionaly take lil peices of thawed frozen silversides, and really like scallop and oyster(ocassional treat when I have some). oh and ocasionaly there tankmates children. The tank they are in is a 75 gallon with lots of swimming space. The 2 I have currently are male and territorial of eachother. |

Most important thing with fish is water quality and a varied diet.Keep that in mind and youll do fine. Puffers are picky, but if you offer them variety, you will learn there individual likes and dislikes. One of mine loves frozen krill the other will not touch it. puffers are full of personality. As in all other aquatic culture endevors do not over feed. |

The too puffers i got are really diff. In size by 1/4 inch and by the way they act. The smaller one is contanly nipping red ramshroms and also 3 inch large golden apple snails it seems as he or she is the mean mofo, Bullying of the fish world is what im seeing, but it's great to watch them, my filter does my tank 4 or 5 times an hour even though its small. I just planted 8 liv eplant in my 15 gallon and gave my 1 inch red cherry shrimp and 2 of the 4 large apple snails to my m8. and i gave him some guppies back he gave me, i still have 15 small ones. Puffers are so ace, i will probley breed triops as food it's nature.
