Longicaudatus "Black Beauty"

Sorry for the terrible pic but I had these guys in the back so I didn't take that many pics of them... this is the lighter one I had, they are both smoothly coloured, no mottling that i noticed. the other was almost black, the eggs I have are a mix of both of theirs but the dark black one lived 10 days longer at 45 days.

Granarius "Japanese"

These are my very favourite Triops thus far. Male lived 33 days, female 45 days.

Longicaudatus "Mottled Beige"
and
Newberryi "Dark"

So imagine the beige one as black and there you have the black beauty one above...that's how I figured out what this one was, when I realized it was different. She lived 40 days. The newberryi lived 30 days but was maimed by an episode of being stuck in her skin, that's why she looks a little strange. But she's my second favourite type of Triops. These guys got along great :) Still testing the eggs, so far there don't seem to be many in the sand so these aren't available for trade until I can figure out whether they laid eggs or not. The beige hatched as soon as I moved their mother (after the newberryi died) so that might explain an absence of eggs, not sure if the newberryi hatched but none were left when I moved them.

Longicaudatus "Transparent Peach"

I don't know if she'll give me eggs, haven't seen any, nor egg sacs. I don't know if it's because they're transparent, or that her lack of colour also makes her sterile? I think I'm going to try taking her out and putting her in a temporary container without substrate and see if she's laying. I certainly want more like her. What do you think? Is she an albino?

Haven't received any mail yet but I can only check my mail on Saturdays. But the Triops should survive just fine even if they have to wait. I'm curious too about the time it will take. Hope it's this Saturday :)

Those graniarus are amazing!!!

I know! I just love those two, and their babies are growing right now :)

They wiggle a lot more as they swim around. I had them going at the same time as the black longs, and the female was about the same size & colour as the black longs but different body shape. The black longs would just "walk" around, in comparison to the squirmy swimming the granarius do pretty constantly. However it could be that the longs wanted warmer water in order to be more active, I don't know. But the granarius have even cuter eyes/faces than the longs, which are already pretty darn cute :)

here's another closeup of the female:

and here's the male when he died :( he was my super fave since he got so big.

Here's a video of the black longs at about 2-3 weeks, just before I moved them to an aquarium. There were already eggs in the sand in that container.

theyre very cool, id like to have some myself.

Any different requirements from Longidaucatus? I know they reproduce sexually, does that mean their eggs are fewer in number?

the tablespoon of their sand i tested got me 3 babies, comparable to the sand i've used of others when purchasing, perfectly acceptable, whereas the longicaudatus sand got me ten times that much or more.

they're pretty easy to hatch, they grow even faster than longs, they tend to swim around the sides of the container rather than at the bottom so you get to see them more. but no, they were not difficult to keep at all.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of them, I'll watch closer for the mating thing I think I saw before, see if I can catch it on video. I shouldn't talk too soon, I haven't even checked them tonight, they're still little.

that's the male taking a stroll in the tank i kept them in.

I work during the day, and there's very little daylight when I'm home in the winter...plus I do a lot of tinkering at night :)

I just updated my pics with peaches as an adult. i can't believe i didn't take any other pics of the black. I could have sworn i did. but maybe that was one of those times there wasn't a card in the camera... I have one clearer but the tail end isn't in the pic. I'll post it sometime.
