My dad just bought a 55 gallon tank with a light(that didntnwork), two lids(which were really dirty), a stand(which was really ugly and mildewy) and a vaccum hise thing for cleaning it for only $100! Normally this would cost about 500 dollars, but we got it for 100! we bought some cool black and white gravel and new lights and hoods and a filter and a new stand, so now we are setting it up! We'll move the fish that i already have into there in a few weeks! :D

Why?

Congratlations on your new tank! Having a new tank to set up is allways exiting! Don't forget to post pictures of it when it is up and running. :D

Also don't mean to be a nag, but make sure to cycle first (you probably know this, lol). It'll save you a LOT of headaches later. =p
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby.

SO true! If you move the old filter, substrate, and decorations into the new tank, you will probably have an "instant" cycle. Don't throw that stuff out or clean it!

Yeah im gonna leave the tank running for a few weeks. We also took about 5 gallons of water from my othertank and will move the decorations over. We might get some african cichlids, after we are done with the fish that we have. The last if my serpae tetras died, and the black skirts arent looking to good, but everyone else seems happy

Re the cichlids if you like lots of babies I recommend yellow labs, I have several tanks full of them, I don't even have the original ones I bought anymore. They're pretty and quite human interactive. But they are pretty agressive with other fish, I guess you know that since you said after you're done with the fish you have :)

What are all the other happy ones?

Congrats on the the good big tank deal :)

africans rock! ! ! I curently have a pair of (neo)lamprlogus helianthus that are almost 8 years old and breed like crazy. they are mid sized shell spawners and are only moderatly agressive(mostly when nesting).

and +1 ducky to the labidachromis!

My neighbor breeds yellow labs, and his daughter is my sister's best freind, so i know i can get some from him cheap or free.
The other "happy" fish would be a 9 inch pleco, 2 spotted cories, 2 bolovian ram, 1 silver tip tetra(though he's more angry than happy-he killed the other 3 silver tips!) 3 silver hatchetfish, 4 lemon tetras, 2 strawberry mollies (bright red with black fins, never knew about them until petsmart had some when we went to get the stuff for my triops tank) and 1 neon swordtail, though he isnt really "neon" anymore, the store dyes them. Dont think im missing anyone on here :D

Cool! That's quite the mixture :) Those mollies sound neat, those fishies have been calling me, i saw some in a pet shop that were like the dalmation kind but with silvery turquoise mixed in, haven't seen them since but next time i do they're coming home :)

That's great you can get the labs, I must say they've been fun :) They're mouth breeders so you can easily see if they're "pregnant". To keep the babies you just get the mom to let go in a new container so no one eats them on her. I've had one or two survive naturally by hiding a lot, but only in the tank with hiding places. If i wait too long to take a mom out of the bare tank, the babies just disappear.

I have the yellow labs, albino plecos (they're less than half the size of your biggie), but just had 30 babies or so as a surprise on new years. I am going to try to breed the long finned kind next. i have a female and 2 males of each kind, the babies are short finned and it was the short finned dad fanning them for the first week, he's way bigger than all the other males. 2 albino coreys (I don't know if it's a pair i have left or not because the smaller one has had his/her fins bit off so its hard to compare). 6 bettas, trying to breed them but they don't wanna right now... 2 upsidedown catfish, and one male cobalt blue cichlid. they are all pretty much in their own species tanks, mostly 10 gallons.

zaky9, I would look seriously into filling out those schools into 6+, rather than stragglers of 2-4. Compatibility with the cichlids may also be an issue.... not to mention space. Please research carefully!

Ducky, your cories probably will not breed (or be remotely happy) unless they're in a bigger group.

I keep trying to keep the school 6+, but they keep dying, and i dunno why. My water is fine, i have no aggresive ones, they just die :?
And i forgot i also have a black mystery snail, who seems kinda weird. It just stays in its shell all day, then i sometimes see it moving around the tank at night or just in a different place then where i last saw it. Anyone else have some like that?

Moved all the fish over yesterday, no one has died yet, and everyone seems good. One concern though. One of the black skirts tetras lips have turned jet black. They were silver, like the rest of the body, until i put him in the big tank. Any idea what is wrong, or if there is anything wrong? :help:

OK, the black skirt tetra's lips are still black, and he just looks downright creepy. :scared:
Anyways, all of the other fish are doing great, but the corys went from a dark gray color to a bright gtay color. Is this just because the old tank had dark gravel and the new one has black&mostly white? I also moved about 10 snails from the 29 gallon into the 55 gallon
