MTS= Malaysian Trumpet Snails (for the person who asked, not sure if anyone answered before me) I had some for awhile, they're cool. Hummm. I just checked where I used to keep them, I thought it was a swamp, turned off the aquarium about a year ago after a catastrophic event and left it since i couldn't get to it (behind another aquarium i'd need to empty and move) but to my surprise the water inside is perfectly clear and there are far more MTS shells in there than when I last saw...darn it all, I could have kept them around, thought everyone died. I guess they lived on the remains. One even looks like it could still be alive. I put some food in, will let you know if anyone moves.

Lessee...My current pets other than Triops:

3 Dogs - all purebred Border Collies (all crazy) (Vausch, Penny, and Missy)

Fish:
3 tanks of Yellow Labridochromis Cichlids plus I'm stripping one today
1 tank of 2 species of albino Plecos (long & short fin) (gonna separate the species)
3 tanks of Betta pairs (trying for more babies as this is all i have left)
1 tank with 2 albino coreys (all i have left of many, hoping they breed)
1 tank of Syndontis upsidedown catfish (their names are Felix and Quincy)
1 tank with 1 cobalt blue cichlid (his name Elvis)
4 tanks with various discus fish (not really mine but i think they are now)

i appear to have 1 fairy shrimp nauplius in my fairy shrimp container and a colony of seed shrimp I transferred to fresh quarters before letting the rest dry out.

several containers of unidentified tiny lifeforms. one with tiny detritus worms.

I guess that's it.

Speaking of creepy crawlies, I am REALLY intrigued by walking stick type insects, there is a seller on Ebay and they are cheap... maybe in the summer I could put something together to play with those...most appear to eat blackberry brambles and such, lots of those around here... does anyone know whether you can store the eggs in cold storage if you don't have the time or facilities to take care of the offspring during the off season? the cool thing about diapause creatures that called to me is that you can take a break from them and yet keep them around for when you are ready :) if you could store the insect eggs, in the fridge, maybe? that would be a plus...

http://shop.ebay.ca/natures*island*uk/m.html

Derek & Vinny, cool critter collections you've mentioned! I don't think I could get into actually keeping the spiders, snakes and scorpions, although they'd be cool to see. (I suppose i do keep a lot of spiders, but not on purpose, the house is just full of them.) The giant millipedes call to me though. :) and those ant farms with the glow in the dark gel :) Oh and frogs are starting to call me too...
Do you have Triops that are different than those shown? Please show me!

I have kept preying mantis eggs refrigerated to postpone hatching until it was warm enough for them to hatch(mid april) and grow in my garden and devour pests.

Ordered some one winter from a bilogical control company recieved them in february with no instructions and had them hatch out 3 days later in my bedroom. It was actualy really cool because they(all 200somthing of them) ran around my celing like a herd of tiny velacoraptors until thay had devoured all their brothers and sisters(this went on for 2 weeks)untill there were only a few left and the glatorial victors(7 to be exact) were each given there own little containers to live in and all the crickets and mealworms they could eat.
the end amen.....

also had one of the small north american mantis flys that eats mostly spiders.
i will have to go through the rest of that forum at some point is very cool.

dlp water scorpians are actualy easy to find just takes some visual adjustment to look for shape and shade among simmilar shapes and shades. they prefer slow moving or still water with lots of vegatative matter to hide in.

+1 on the large fish had a 90 gallon with snakeheads(2 species),a large mouth bass, and a buterkoferi taliapia. and a 75 gal with a breeding pair of uarus.

I've had 3, they were a "breeding pair" they lived 2 more years, you need land of some sort to breed them. I got no eggs.

AHHHHHH! :hyper: I just found out i have new plecos! they had babies again :) i better hurry up and move them now, i think 60 plecos in a 10 gallon tank are a bit much!!! and i still haven't moved the long fins, so i'll do that too.

the water bugs are calling to me too, we'll see this spring :) i know there was a water boatman in my pool before it froze over...wonder if it'll still be alive when it melts.

congratulations ducky!!!
and zack the longest ive had a single water scorpion was 3 years.
they are actualy aquatic insects and not at all related to true scorpions.
they can fly when adults so giving them a way to leave the water unless the tank is completly covered is probably not a good idea.
it was one that i collected with some daphnia, that was a nymph when found she was apx. 1/4 '' and was almost 3 '' at the end of her life.

and more new pets today, now have 4 brand new yellow labs i just stripped from their little tiny mom. i think i'm going to put them in the 20 gallon with a bunch of 1 month old pleco babies. i think they'd have the best chance that way, rather than throwing them in with a bunch of almost-adults...they would probably eat them.

i moved my longfin plecos...all 3 now share an aquarium, i moved the bettas in with the coreys. but i'm confused now...i had thought i had 2 longfin males in with a male and two female shortfins in the other aquarium. But the larger longfin was in the cupcave with the shortfin male and now that i look harder there are no bristles on the nose edge of the larger one, i thought there was, is otherwise extensively bristled and the biggest longfin i have...so i might have 2 girls and a guy...and the new babies just born might be hybrids if it was the longfin girl and the shortfin guy like it seems to be, because neither of the other two shortfin females seemed to be near the cupcave.

i gave a similar cupcave to the longfins so that the two that were in the other aquarium would at least have the idea of what it's for... and will hopefully use it. and i gave them the green food. crossing fingers :)

I just realized that I have a ton of super tiny unidentified snails in my Triops tank :rofl1:

They probably hitched a ride on the elodea as eggs, because I saw things on the elodea that looked like Triops eggs, and those are gone now.

You can almost consider my carnivorous plants, banana plants, cacti, and various assorted other plants as pets, considering the amount of care I give them :rofl2:

i like the northern pitcher plants a lot, i keep mine outside. dont even need to bring them in for the winter and they start easily from seed.
the flowers are reall cool too.
the sundews are neat and many of the tropical species are easy to keep.
i have gotten some really nice specimens from black jungle terrium supply.
they have a great online catalog and usualy have good info for each plant.
they are like 40 min from my house their arrowfrog breeding facility and green house is really nice.

Flora:
-Mare's tail(a pond plant similar to elodea)
-Unidentified green and red stem plant sold as anacharis, though I know it isn't
-Small "dwarf pennywort"-just added today, so I'll see if it gets taller or is a carpeting plant

Fauna:

-6 neon tetras
-3 angelfish
-1 spiked tiger nerite snail
-2 olive nerite snails
-Several small pond snails
-2 amano shrimp

On a side note, my goldfish in my pond have spawned, so I have at least 4 of them(only seen 4 once)

Okay, my idea.
Some of your schooling fish are in rather small groups - have you considered increasing their numbers to six or more?

Triops Longicaudatus
well, the congo tetras, buenos aires tetras, and bleeding heard tetras all school together. the two buenos aires are at least 4 years old and huge... i dont plan on getting any more. the three guppies are a trio, and the three ghost catfish have claimed about 1/4 of the tank. i was told they would be shy fish... mine aren't. i cant imagine how much territory they would claim if i doubled their numbers...
All of the rainbows school together, loosely. they seem to not care where their buddies are, or whether they are following another of their same species or not. the eels ignore each other completely, and the elephant nose fish hide in their caves all day... you would think the dollar sunfish would be the mean loner, but he follows the blue guarami like they are a mated pair.

I'm Mariah,
I have some odd pet's.

My favourite has to be my bearded dragon (spike) he's a little sweetheart and he even sit's and watch's tv with me.

The next has to be our pet chameleon, he's called clyde, no matter how much he tried, he still doesn't understand the concept of glass, and is constantly attempting to climb through it :L

We also have 3 turantula's:
-A large female chille rose named Rosa
-A small male chille rose named Harry
-And a very yound mexican redknee named consuala (we do not know the gender quite yet)

We also have two snakes who are extremely sociable, and do not stop moving aroung in their tanks:
-Our 6 year old Royal Phython named Monty, he loved being around your neek, and adventuring down any womens tops :L
-and then there is Tango, our female Corn Snake named Tango, she loves anything that breathes, and considers anything larger than her to be a friend, she even gets along with Monty.

The last of our wonderful collection has to be our fluffball of a cat named Minstrel, he's the most hyperactive, wierd, scatty, dumbass mammal i have ever met, and he is also 6 years old.

We did used to have a female chameleon with the male we have but unfortunately Clyle kind of raped her a little to often, and she got ill and died.(she was called bonnie)
We also had a female before we even got those two named Lola but she had a rare disease and died from that :(

We've had many other animals but it would take way too long to put down in words.

I now also have 5 adult mollies (4 sunset, 1 black)(2 male, 3 female)
they were pregnant when i got them so i now have just about 200 babies which will be returning to the pet shop once big enough.
and they are pregnant again so will be expecting more soon

and i have an algea eater who has been laying eggs recently ^^ even more babies woooooo lol

Okay, my idea.
I have mice now! Three girls and a boy - separated by gender, of course, though once I can afford it, I'm getting the male neutered so they can live together.

Egg
1 x 3 year old dog named Timmy, not entirely sure what he is because he's a rescue, but some blend of Maltese/Jack Russell/Pomeranian - he's a tiny (<4kg) white fluffy thing.
1 x 7 year old Children's Python named Amanda.
Jealous of all the pets everyone else has!

Egg
I have now two dogs and I'm waiting for triop eggs. Have bought 'em already but hasn't arrive via mail yet.

Earlier I have had a corn snake and two tarantulas. I'm not going to have any snakes anymore, but spiders may be someday again. I adore them.

But triops is now my one and only target of attention. Beside the dogs.

Figured it was time for an update. Although some were lost in the meantime, it appears in general I am increasing the bounds of my pet kingdom, so to speak :)

Lessee...My current pets other than Triops & such:

Dogs
2 purebred Border Collies (both crazy, both female) (Penny, and Missy)

Fish:
5 tanks of Yellow Labridochromis Cichlids
2 tank of albino Plecos (short fin)
2 tank of albino Plecos (long fin)
1 tank of albino Plecos (hybrids from before i separated them, there are 2 left, male and female) the leftover albino corey is in there too.
2 tanks of Betta pairs (trying for more babies)
2 Syndontis upsidedown catfish (their names are Felix and Quincy) acttually they are the fake upsidedown ones that grow very big, seen them get eggy a few times, might be doing so now, if so i will remove and try to get a school of them going as they are evidently easier to breed than the real upsidedowns. They live with the Yellow Labs in the large tank, along with
1 cobalt blue cichlid (his name Elvis) i think now he must be a powder blue because i bought 4 tankmates for him which i think are all girls but they are brighter & darker blue, he seems grey in comparison. Just put them in with him & the others yesterday, everybody seems to be getting along fine. (They'd been in quarantine since last Chrismas in their own tank).
1 tank of 2 kinds of cichlids, can't remember their species
2 tanks of yet another type of cichlid, originals and babies

Birds:
Got into these guys this year. Such special creatures they are too. I've had canaries and finches before but they are nothing like parrot type birds, so intelligent and emotive. Most are highly recommended :)
*Sarah, Boo, Sammy - African Greys (Sarah is my baby, she'll turn 1 in about a week, she says peekaboo right now. She cuddles and kisses and spends most of her time on my shoulder.) All the rest are pets too but we also do hope to have babies from them someday.) Boo says a lot of stuff, her original owner was a male so most comes out in a male voice. I think it's my hubby every time. She says things in my voice too. Sammy makes mostly sound effects, although he does say "whoa!".
*Lulu, Chester, Amy, Sheldon - Blue Golds - Lulu & Chester can talk, Lulu much more than Chester, who basically says hello, byebye, howareyou and Carol (i assume that was his initial owner, we bought Chester from a Chinese man). Amy and Sheldon were previously breeders and mostly warble although I've heard Amy say hello. Sheldon is special because he dances when he's happy, and he's a pretty happy guy, especially when you bring him a treat. Worst sound is Lulu's 'bagock', an earbreaker and she'll mainly do it right in your ear for best effect, generally to complain that she is jealous of whatever you are doing that is pointing your ear at her instead of your eyes (like when i give food to Amy & Sheldon). Second worst is Lulu I can touch to some degree, pet her while on a stand, hold hands through the bars. the rest seem to want to eat me so I stay away.
*Fred -Umbrella Cockatoo (loud! doesn't talk at all, is more like a rooster, calls in the morning and evening for sure (basically multiple rhythmic screaming argh argh argh argh) and does it various other times when he feels like it. and lately when he wants a peanut. he also makes other sounds that aren't so annoying (he gets all the other birds going when he gets started with the screaming, because they don't like it. Lulu usually says Stop it when he stays at it too long. Chester just tries to outscream him, which is the most annoying of all.) Fred's other sounds are waka-waka yuk yuk yuk, and peep peep when he's shy but wants to interact with you. I like him a lot, such a shy cutie most of the time, especially when he jumps or climbs. (so funny when he jumps) but he is a trouble maker with him winding everyone up all the time, so he might be leaving at some point in favour of someone more compatible with the rest of the crowd. too bad because he is beautiful, probably my favourite for looks, very big and grand with his headdress. was hoping to find him a girl and get a baby i could teach my own way (Fred is 22), but I have Sarah as my main baby and wouldn't want to spread myself too thin either. we'll see how it goes. Freddy will be quiet if i tell him to, (i only have to step in the doorway and make the shush sign with my finger, he knows what it means, but until i get there, it's loud city.)
*Mr & Mrs Green, Mr & Mrs Blue, Mr & Mrs Grey - Indian Ringnecks (the loudest of all, if you can believe it, and make the most noise overall too. eardrum breakers, in fact. sounds like star wars - pew pew pew pew pew, especially if they can see sunshine.) They used to say i wuv you but now not so much, they were breeders, so we are hoping to train their babies into cutie talk (and hopefully less star wars). they sound like children when they talk. I think Mr. Green is having an affair with Mrs. Blue, and this causes most of the commotion. Mr. Green is the main instigator of all pew pew pewing, Mrs Green is second. These guys I find fascinating due to the colour mixing, kinda like bettas. I don't think any of ours are pure colours, there seems to be grey in both the greens and blues, making them somewhat khaki and lilac-ish respectively, with black wing tips. I like the greys because they are like mini Sarah's. If you had a clearhead version of them it'd be almost perfect, except the red in the ringnecks is the beak instead of the tail.
*Mr Yellow & Mrs White & 2 eggs, Mr. Sniffy & Granny, Blackie (male) - Cockatiels
(All Lutinos, Blackie is a white face, so he's all white, kinda a mini version of Fred). These guys make nice sounds for the most part and they were actually the ones to teach Sarah how to do several kinds of whistle sounds (wolf whistle, comehere whistle, etc) these are our first viable eggs so we are looking forward to our first real baby birdies in January. Had most of them since last Spring. We're not letting the rest breed until next Spring, some of them have been overbred and we want them to be healthy and happy.
Do you have Triops that are different than those shown? Please show me!
